Parenting children of the 21st century is no easy task. Recipes that worked for previous generations simply fail to produce results with large percentages of the New Kids. They are threatened by gangs, criminals and drug lords. Raising unemployment figures and governments introducing affirmative action policies assist to put our youth under pressure to perform with distinctions at all times. Parents, Educators and Professionals stand helplessly by as evolution starts to roll over us like a steam train.
Who does not know that one kid (your own, your sister's, your Uncle's, your son's) who is just so different and active it leaves almost anyone helpless.
Our dream is for children to be raised in a stimulating environment. That they grow up happy, healthy and ready to tackle their purpose confidently and self-reliant.
According to Flynn and Blake, IQ means very little in the real world. EQ (emotional intelligence) is the newest buzz word in the training world. HR departments put EQ on top of their lists in screening candidates for management levels. Queries from Corporate's on training of emotional intelligence are amongst the most popular. Yet EQ has not made it as a subject in schools.
Often, we choose top achieving schools. Most of them focus on academics some on athletics, not one I know of on emotional intelligence. Why not? Is it easier to teach students that conform than self-reliant, challenging kids that will question what is outdated or inappropriate?
We want to close the gap providing quality information to parents on challenges they face with their 21st century children. That ranges from tips and tricks that allow fine-tuned parenting skills to emotional intelligence to alternatives to drugs for "disorders" like adhd/add.
