Have you got a strong willed child? Do you find that kids these days are different than we were? Are you challenged by your child's attitude, temperament, skills, behavior or emotional outbursts? Is your child being bullied, shy or overly sensitive?

All too often we are told by people around us how xyz's behavior is not acceptable, ...and in the old days....etc. etc. Sometimes well meaning professionals guide us in a direction that we are not prepared to take.

To the world our children's behavior is almost the only visible clue on which they base their 'judgment'. There are many factors influencing the behavior though. Having experienced the metaphysical level as well as standing firm on the ground with a counseling and training background I am convinced if one does not look at a given situation holistically, one might tend to neglect important aspects of the puzzle to solve.

Whether this entails an 'allopathic' psychologist neglecting the metaphysical level, or an 'esoterist' neglecting possible psychological or developmental reasons that contributed to the problem at hand, most important is to find a holistic solution and to explore what alternatives, treatments and therapies are available. Sometimes, all it takes is a new awareness level, or a slight change of behavior and the problem dissipates without long term intrusions like medication.

At times we have listened to professionals despite an inner uneasiness about the prescribed road, have developed a new awareness and are ready to explore alternatives to allow our children to blossom fully.

Maybe the naughty underachiever who has been labeled adhd is in fact gifted. Yet the wrong environment, treatment and at times personal dislikes between teachers and challenging kids can start a downward spiral that could easily turn around when awareness and information lead a family on a path of discovery.

Carmen M. Schnider-Kemp has facilitated workshops on experiential team building, leadership and transformation at levels from grassroots to Ceo's. She has designed and facilitated motivational courses for visual spatial learners at primary school and high school level containing modules of learn and study skills and mnemonics.

Apart from facilitating for Rand Water, Spoornet, Lonhro Platinum and Maurice Kerrigan she is busy with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, specializing in Education and early childhood development to complement her practical counseling skills gained at life-line and over ten years facilitation in the corporate world.

Born in 1967 with an energy labeled "Indigo" today, she experienced the trials and tribulations of growing up with this energy firsthand. She understands the gifts and challenges the new energies bring with. The recognition of trends and changing behavior patterns is no short term issue; whether we subscribe to the labeling game or not does not alter the fact that our children have evolved, operate at different energy levels and need to be treated accordingly to blossom to their full potential. Carmen was born in Switzerland and immigrated to South Africa in 1993. She is married, has a stepdaughter of 14 years, a daughter of 6 and lives with her family in Midrand, South Africa.
